A Life Dedicated To Public Service

The Executive Leadership Institute is housed within the Mark O. Hatfield School of Government at Portland State University.  ELI began over twenty-five years ago at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon.  It was incorporated into PSU's Public Administration program through a merger with Lewis and Clark in 1996.

The Executive Leadership Institute assists the Mark O. Hatfield School of Government in meeting the professional development needs of federal, state, and local agencies and officials with public service responsibility. The Institute accomplishes this mission through educational programs, applied research, and professional and community service initiatives.

Educational programs include the Executive Master of Public Administration Program for seasoned public-sector managers. Applied research projects provide technical assistance to agencies in managing technological and organizational innovations. Our professional and community service initiatives include public safety programs, watershed and natural resource seminars, and training workshops with rural communities and diverse social groups.

Together, these activities support the School of Government's ongoing efforts to enhance democratic governance, develop responsible citizenship, and improve the quality of public service.
